KFC Double Down's Ugly Truth

Thesis:
The claims made in the KFC double down advertisement is that it represents a new, great and tasty meal, that will fill you up—lacking health and nutrition, information about regularly consuming the product will lead to obesity, and the truth behind their production.

Body Paragraph:
Although bacon is America’s favorite, and the double down sandwich looks incredibly delicious and mouthwatering in the advertisement, the question is, is it a healthy choice for fast food? This is because the number of obese people is increasingly alarming and it is not rocket science for us to know that obesity leads to an excess of health related issues. The major guilt for obesity is the consumption of huge quantities of junk food on a regular basis. So with a sandwich that seems like it has more than what any other sandwich offers it is an increasing concern to know whether it could cause some serious damage to your system. In Mary Stone and Simone French’s article, Food Advertising and Marketing Directed at Children and Adolescents in the US, it is certain that “the principle goal of food advertising and marketing aimed at children is to influence brand awareness, brand preference, brand loyalty, and food purchases among youth.” Since Advertising is strongly aimed at children it inevitably teaches them to always choose and consume the best product, the more we consume the happier we are. As mouthwatering as it may seem the Double Down is an unhealthy fast food choice.

MFAH: A Collection of Imagination

Thesis: Senior year in high school I had a humanities class with Mrs. Currie, and at the end of the year her class gets to go on a field trip to art museums all over downtown Houston. Out of the many museums the best one I’ve been to is The Museum of Fine Arts Houston. The MFAH had so many great and famous paintings from Rembrandt to Picasso. In all, I had a great time there hanging out with my friends and enjoying art.

Body paragraph:

We next went into large rooms with hundreds of paintings. One painting caught my eye because it was so famous, Picasso’s Starry Night. The brush strokes made the painting look like a reflection in a pool of water. The tree in the painting looked as if it was a green fire rather than a tree. When we moved into the next room there was a painting of a picnic representing pointillism, a painting made from hundreds of paint dots. Up close it looked like a newspaper picture in that you can see every pixel, in contrast, far away the painting looked normal and just a little fuzzy. I admire the painter’s patience and skill of knowing where to put each dot of color. The following painting was of a lush jungle. I could almost feel the hot humid air and the smell of fruit in the air because the painting was so life like.

She's Beauty: Memorial Park

Thesis:

I am sure that only a small portion of its atendees have fully captured the true beauty of Memorial Park.

Body Paragraph:

I have ran this track many times. Actually, I'm pretty sure many people in this classroom have also done the same. It's not this, the track, that truly mesmerizes me, but some trail to the south of the softball field this is my haven into ultimate transcendence into the natural world. The trails, which run deep into actual woods, are what they are: trails. No pavement, no lamps, no destination. They start at a central point and split into 5 trails that all interweave all within. Within, there is a diversity of trees and shrubs, like a diverse neighborhood without discrimination. Like Houston. There is a stream that is directly below one of the trails and is a steep 20 foot climb down, which is very dangerous. It's nature's warning signs. The trees, high and divine, speak at times, "whooshing" at you, though in times of peace they are at peace and quiet. Some trees have been split due to lightning and have established themselves as markers, one giant tree taking the appearance of a statue of a large head, resembling some old African head sculpting. This is where I feel one with this earth. The more you dwell here, the harder it is to leave. It has treated me and many others as an escape from the cosmopolitan life, the dreariness of traffic, the redundancy of school and work, the roads, the concrete, and the cars. It's a good place to get in touch with nature, like meeting-up with good old friends that you haven't seen in a long time and wonder why you spend so much time apart since it they have so much to do with your make-up.

Tailgating for Pride

Thesis: Robertson’s Stadium, in the University of Houston, expresses the pride and spirit of Houston, Texas through coming together for a common passion for sports.

Body: All the fans and people who come for the game share a common bond formed by prepping for the game together. The excitement heightens, the unity amongst supporters of the Houston Cougars grows under the radar, and the moral builds itself during these tailgates. Once the game is soon to start, many people begin to head out to the bleachers and grab seats before all the good spots are occupied. With Coog Crew, our sports supporting organization, next to the band and the cheerleaders below hyping everyone up, the moment for the first kickoff of the game grows nearer. Spontaneous fans jump up and get everyone up on their feet with another one of our school’s chants, bringing everyone together with a common hope. Not only students of the schools but alumni, parents, children and anybody else who wants to attend and support our team present themselves on game day. At that moment we all pride ourselves with being identified as the Cougars. We all come with the mindset that our team will win another victory, but the times when we experience a defeat together show another side of Houston because when people lose together, they are at their lowest point. When all moral is down and everyone’s head hangs low, we all share that experience together. As a whole we experience victory and triumph along with sadness and disappointment that only fuels us to come back stronger than ever to take back the lead. Although, we share losses, that does not deter us from trying again and coming back to the tailgates in belief of another victory.
